If you’ve ever thought, I’d love to travel, but I’m not sure I can do it alone, you’re exactly who I created Late Bloom Travel for.

I’ve always loved travel. Throughout my career, I fit travel around my work schedule. I traveled alone on bike trips and group tours, often adding a few solo days at the beginning and end. At 65, I earned a master’s degree in gerontology. My studies in aging shaped how I thought about my life and the things I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to travel more when I retired, and solo travel evolved from occasional adventures during my working years into one of the greatest joys of my retirement.
My son was grown and out of the house, and I was single. I realized that I didn’t have to wait to find someone to travel with. So, I faced my fears and began traveling to the places I dreamed of going. Sometimes with a group. Sometimes on my own. Often blending the two.
Those experiences became the foundation for Late Bloom Travel. I created this site to share what I’ve learned with other women who want to travel with confidence and on their own terms.
Here’s what you’ll find at Late Bloom Travel:
- How to plan trips that feel manageable and enjoyable
- Ways to stay safe without becoming anxious
- How to navigate restaurants, transportation, and daily logistics solo
- Choosing when to join a tour—or go independently
- How to use points and credit cards to make travel more affordable
And just as importantly, I share thoughts about aging, independence, and staying open to new experiences.
I love this stage of my life. I enjoy traveling, but I also love coming home—to my friends and family, pickleball games, my exercise routine, and the comforts of everyday life. I’m grateful that I’m able to travel, and I believe solo travel doesn’t have to be expensive. With thoughtful planning, it can be within reach for many women.
People sometimes tell me I’m brave. I don’t think of myself that way. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need a willingness to try.
Here, I’ll share my stories, life lessons, and everything I’ve learned along the way. I hope you’ll join me on this journey. You don’t have to be fearless to begin.
